Undergraduate Core Studio I
Fall 2014
Washington University in St. Louis | Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts | College of Architecture
Coordinator & Syllabus: Igor Marjanovic
This introductory architectural design studio engages the basic principles of architectural context, composition and experience. Through various field/work strategies, students explore architectural context through observation, analysis and invention. The site-specific design processes bridge two-dimensional and three-dimensional work, including drawing, drafting and making. The experiential qualities of architecture are introduced through basic considerations of scale and human interaction.
Students begin the semester by observing and photographing textures and patterns on a site which they translate into a drawing technique. Students then develop their technique through a series of physical models that explore different materials and assembly ideas.
